The third edition of Life in Sebastian County. This magazine is a guide to the county. On to the design!

I didn't post the second edition. It was very similar to the first except with different colors and a different picture. This edition, however, I have made bigger changes. For starts, I took the cover photo. That's right, my photographs have officially been published!

The magazine comes out in late July so a golf course is appropriate. I took this photo at Hardscrabble Country Club in Fort Smith, AR during the 2009 Fort Smith Classic. The photo overlooks the 16th green, over the lake, and onto the 17th green. This photo has everything you look for in a golf course shot: Pretty green, landscaping, water (with a fountain), white sand bunkers, and a tree line, all in bright sunlight.

As for the design elements, since it was a very green cover, I figured the main logo should also reflect this rather than contrast it. Instead of the solid colored box behind the word LIFE, I opted to make a abstract leaf-like shape and throw a shiny gradient on it. Continued off to the right is "In Sebastian County" in white against a translucent black box. The date and byline are set in a light gray. Dark enough to keep it from mixing with the title but light enough to stand out against it's background.

There are no pictures associated with this post.

I am trying to be as polite as I possibly can, but did ANYONE on your staff pay attention to the layout on page 32 & 33?

"Learning Outside the Classroom" (UAFS Summer Camps Educational, Fun For Children) & "Youth Activities Abound" with all types of interesting things for children to do was a wonderful thing to print, until we noticed the ad on page 33!

An ad foR THE CHEYENNE GENTLEMEN'S CLUB & SPORTS BAR on the SAME PAGE as "Youth Acitivities Abound" where children could read it?

This doesn't seem appropriate, and frankly, this would be highly embarrassing to parents if their children should read it.

What WERE you thinking?

REPLY: Thank you for the feedback. I have passed on the note to those responsible for that portion of the paper. Had any of us noticed that, I can guarantee it wouldn't have printed that way. Thanks for visiting my site!
