Throwdown in T-Town

Heather, Penny, Stephanie, and my mom went to Time Out for Women in OKC over the weekend. It's basically a giant women's conference for the ladies to go to and focus on themselves for a day and not worry about their kids, jobs, etc.

So, what did Daddy do? He snatched up his two boys, his brother and his boys and spent the day at the strip sniffing nitro and burned rubber.

The tickets were free (had to pay $10 parking charge) so we couldn't really pass up the opportunity. We got to see some really fast cars. We saw cars run in the 3.90's in the 1/8th mile and upwards of 200mph.

Blake has never seen a real race car before so his eyes lit up as soon as he got to walk up to one and look at it. He said they were too loud! I asked him if he wanted to see them go super-fast and he told me "No, go slower. Too loud!"

The first set of cars went down the track and he screamed "WOOOOW!!!!" the whole time they were on the throttle. Priceless! He got to sit in a old school dragster but it was scary to him but I snapped the pic anyways :) He asked me 5-6 times later to get in one so he could check it out but we didn't get anymore offers.

No wrecks but we did have a few close calls. One car did a wheelstand so high, I thought he went airborne! A few cars spun out and ended up in the other lanes, including the big finale funny car that was there.

That guy ("Invader") gave us a nice big lung-full of nitro when he started up. Poor Blake! He was terrified because he didn't like the taste. He wouldn't let me record his run so Ricky had to do it. He made me hold him. Unfortunately, he spun the tires and slid into the other lane and let off the throttle.

Poor Blake got sunburned because his stupid dad didn't think it'd be an issue for some reason. He woke up Sunday morning with a blister on each cheek. I felt horrible! I was feeling myself and him and as soon as I saw red on his cheeks, we left the races but he kept turning redder and redder. Not good but he's fine now. Me, on the other hand, feel like someone has a torch laying against my forehead!

We had a great time though. It's always fun hanging out with my nephews and brother. We may try and go to the Night of Fire event in June. I think it'll be fun for the boys to see those flames! It'll be dark so maybe I'll manage to not give my children second degree burns.
